February 15, 2006--For the second consecutive year, seniors found great advice from alumni who have ventured out before them at Senior Class Career Day 2006 held on February 3. The one-day conference on the Medford/Somerville campus attracted more than 100 members of the Class of 2006 and some 30 alumni from diverse professional backgrounds who shared their advice with the seniors about life after graduation.
“It was nice to come back to campus and to be able to contribute for the benefit of seniors,” said Michael Ward, A90, who led an information session on understanding employer benefits and total compensation.
Popular components to the day also included a guided professional protocol luncheon, personal financial planning workshop hosted by Christopher Grande, A95, and a “Life After Tufts” alumni panel.
The program’s central focus was giving students a solid sense of life skills that can help them make the transition from college to work and/or graduate school. The event grew out of partnered planning between student-led organizations, Senior Class Council, Tufts Programming Board, and the campus offices of Career Services and Alumni Relations.
“This is just one example of how wonderful programs can be when there is a collaborative effort across departments,” noted Leslie Warner, Assistant Director for Alumni Career Services who concluded the conference with a “speed-networking” session ensuring that all students, including the shyest attendees, made a meaningful alumni introduction.
Senior Class Career Day is an inclusive program with an open invitation to all interested alumni. If you would like to participate in next year’s program (tentatively scheduled for 2/02/07) please share an email with Jonathan Burton at Jonathan.Burton@tufts.edu.
