Class of 2006 elects peer alumni leaders

May 15, 2006--In an effort to increase young alumni leadership, the Tufts University Alumni Association (TUAA) has made available four elected positions within the Tufts Alumni Council since 2000. The Alumni Council is a volunteer-led group which serves as the governing body for the organization that represents all alumni.

This spring, sixteen seniors in the Class of 2006 ran for the Transitional Council Member positions and more than 300 of their classmates cast ballots in an online election.

The newly elected inductees include, Cho-Yau Ling, Anita Sinha, David Baumwoll and Jeffrey Katzin. All boast impressive academic excellence and extensive involvement in activities during their past four years at Tufts.

Incoming TUAA President, Sunny Breed, J66, AG72, acknowledges how important it is to have young graduates volunteering with the Alumni Council. "These young men and women represent the long-term future of our association. The balance between younger and more seasoned volunteers is absolutely essential. With larger and more diverse classes graduating today, there needs to be broader representation from those classes so that the Alumni Council better reflects the alumni body as a whole."

Three of the four elected council members were introduced to fellow alumni at the TUAA's Spring Council Meeting held at the Medford/Somerville campus on May 7.
