A Balancing Act: Alumnae share advice work/family issues
December 15, 2006 -- More than 40 alumnae from four of Tufts’ schools, representing five decades of graduates, attended the Women’s Leadership Forum sponsored by the Association of Tufts Alumnae (ATA) at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston on November 16, 2006. This year’s event featured a panel of three very successful and unique Tufts women who are passionate about work, life and active citizenship.
The panelists were Arline Isaacson, J78, co-chair of the Massachusetts Gay & Lesbian Political Caucus, Jan Brown, J85, G89, associate director of Athletics for Student Life Enrichment & Equity, University at Albany and Stephanie Goldstein, J95, chief marketing officer, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.
The panelists generously shared their personal life stories while also offering insight and advice on everything from navigating and thriving in adverse work environments, managing career transitions, and balancing work and family. Those in attendance had the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists both during and after the presentation, which created a very engaging and enjoyable evening.
"All four women shared with us how each step they had taken had lead them to new experiences and roads in life they never thought they would travel. They all discovered how they can adapt to change, create new opportunities and while their life paths had changed, they were able to find a happy family environment for home and career," said Sharon White, J94. "They all endured, survived and succeed no matter what was put in front of them."
The ATA is Tufts’ oldest alumnae group and is exclusively dedicated to furthering the interests of Tufts women. In addition to hosting several events throughout the year, the ATA awards over $25,000 in scholarships to current undergraduate women, as well as women students at all six of Tufts’ professional schools.
