Alumni Weekend 2006: Cirque d'Elephant party will pull out all the stops
April 14, 2006--Don’t miss the opportunity to experience a new Alumni Weekend event, being launched on Friday evening, May 19, at the Gantcher Center on the Medford campus.
Tufts University Alumni Association's Alumni Weekend Committee, chaired by Kevin Boyle, A78, is excited about a new event he says “pulls out all the stops under the Brown-and-Blue Big Top.”
No, they’re not bringing back P.T. Barnum and his “Greatest Show On Earth.” But they are tipping their hat to Tufts’ circus connection with an evening of food, fun, entertainment, dancing, prizes, surprises and more -- called Cirque d’Elephant.
All alumni are invited to this festive bash featuring a colorful and sophisticated circus-theme. Past themes, such as the Big Gig, featured a more formal dinner and dance format. This event has a more relaxed atmosphere that matches the fun spirit of Alumni Weekend, according to Boyle.
“We wanted to create a party experience that was truly original and memorable,” says Boyle. “With the world’s most famous elephant as the Tufts’ mascot, we wanted to use Jumbo as a point of departure for our new theme. It’s opened up a lot of creative possibilities.”
Alumni will enjoy a rich assortment of food and beverages, be able to partake in old-style circus games, and enjoy lively performances by Tufts undergraduate dance groups Saraband, Spirit of Color, and Bhangra. Alumni can dance the night away to music provided by Night Rhythm, a versatile eight-piece band.
Price of admission is $50 per person, and includes open bar, an incredible assortment of food stations, and Tufts’ famous dessert buffet.
“We hope alumni get a sense of the wonderful talent at Tufts and at the same time renew friendships and simply have a great time,” says Tim Brooks, Director of Alumni Relations.
Don’t delay: Reserve your tickets by May 5. Free and ample parking is located just across the street. Find out more about the Cirque d'Elephant and Alumni Weekend.
