August 14, 2006--Tufts alumni now have online access to Ovid's MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database, with more than 11 million citations and abstracts in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, healthcare systems, and pre-clinical sciences. In addition, alumni will also have full-text access to Current Opinion journals in various specialties (see box at lower right).
Access to the database is offered free of charge to Tufts alumni courtesy of Hirsh Health Sciences Library and the Tufts University Alumni Association.
"We have wanted to provide access to online resources to alumni for many years," said Eric D. Albright, director of Hirsh Health Sciences Library. "The addition of these clinical titles and MEDLINE for our alumni is a wonderful opportunity to provide vital information to clinicians which they can use in their practices."
"The titles were selected specifically to match the practice fields of a wide range of our alumni. I am very happy to be able to provide this kind of access to our alumni, because they are a vital part of the Tufts community," Albright said.
Tufts was among the first universities to extend library database access to alumni. In March 2005, the Tufts libraries and TUAA partnered to offer alumni access to ABI/INFORM Research, a popular business, finance and economics database, and Expanded Academic ASAP, a multi-disciplinary scholarly journal and trade publication database. The Ovid MEDLINE offering now allows Tufts to broaden the service to cover journals of particular interest to graduates of Tufts health sciences programs on the Medford, Boston and Grafton campuses.
"I'm pleased that the Ovid MEDLINE database is now available to Tufts alumni, providing access to a wide variety of health sciences literature. It is an excellent new benefit for our alumni," says TUAA President Sunny Breed, J66, G72. "
"Staying current is more important than ever, especially in the fast-paced health sciences professions where access to the latest publications as well as historical literature is critical," says Tim Brooks, Director of Alumni Relations. "This new benefit is an invaluable resource for ongoing professional development."
Alumni will be able to use their Tufts Online Community
