Description: This 11-day journey along France’s scenic Saône and Rhône Rivers will take us past some of the most beautiful vineyards and vistas in the French countryside. We begin at Beaune, where the Hôtel-Dieu houses Van der Weyden's painting of the Last Judgment; after our visit here we'll board the Avalon Scenery in Chalon-sur-Sâone. Next we'll sail to Tournus, Mâcon, and Lyon, where we'll see Roman remains and Renaissance architecture. Survey the city from Fourviére Hill and explore Old Town, a UNESCO World heritage site. We'll spend time sightseeing in the twin cities of Tournon and Tain L'Hermitage before heading to Viviers; next up is Avignon, the center of the Catholic Church in the 14th century. We’ll continue to Arles, where we'll see the Roman Amphitheater and remains of the Gallo-Roman burial road, then transfer to Nîmes and visit the Maison Carrée and Les Arénes, the world’s best-preserved Roman amphitheatre. Next, a stop in Pont Du Gard before continuing on to Aix-en-Provence, one of France's most elegant cities. We'll explore its center on foot, stroll along the shaded Cours Mirabeau, and admire its famous cafés and fountains. The next day is dedicated to the life and works of Paul Cézanne; we will visit the Bibémus Quarries, the Manor of Jas De Bouffan, the Studio at Les Lauves and the Route du Tholonet and Château Noir.
