A Weekend Getaway in the Berkshires
Dates: October 17 – 19, 2008

Description: Enjoy weekend activities and beautiful foliage in Western Massachusetts’ Berkshires! Home to the highest peak in the Commonwealth, this landscape has charmed generations of intellectuals, artists, and craftsmen. A cradle of culture tucked into the heart of New England, this historic region proudly blends quaint villages, country roads, and spectacular fall foliage with world-class art centers, museums, and galleries. Take the opportunity to unwind here while paddling a wildlife refuge, hiking local trails, sharpening photography skills, biking on your own, or simply relaxing in the magnificence of nature. Join faculty host Professor George Ellmore in exploring some of Massachusetts' most celebrated terrain. A member of the Biology Department and advisor to the Tufts Wilderness Orientation Program, Professor Ellmore brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the area and has previously led our hiking and paddling trip to Attean Lake in Maine, Squam Lake in New Hampshire, and Crawford Notch, NH. For two days, Professor Ellmore will guide our group as we paddle and hike, providing informal commentary on the area's natural history, vibrant wildlife, and culture of stewardship. In addition, you'll enjoy the camaraderie of others who share a Tufts connection. Accommodations will be at the Jiminy Peak New England Country Inn, a beautiful, spacious all-suite hotel located at the base of Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort. The trip includes moderate hiking and paddling. Participants must be in good physical condition and willing to walk over uneven terrain. Reservations are on a first come basis, so book your trip right away!
