The Changing Press
Photograph By John Soares
The journalistic standard set by Edward R. Murrow is being severely
tested. Murrow, born 100 years ago last month, would have headed the center
named after him at the Fletcher School had he had not died in 1965. His
library and papers have since resided at Tufts. To honor his centenary,
the media analyst Mark Jurkowitz takes stock of the foundering press. It’s
a case of “Good News, Bad News,” in which Tufts alumni figure
prominently. Then Crocker Snow, Jr., director of the Edward R. Murrow Center
for Public Diplomacy, surveys the media landscape and asks, “What
Would Murrow Do?”
