Mickey Ferri is triple majoring in Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, and Computer Science (!) and has made the Dean's list every semester. In addition, Mickey has been on the Tufts University Varsity Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field team. His events include the 55 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, and for this combination of academic excellence with superior athletic performance he was honored with the Lewis F. Manly Memorial Prize.
His professors find that his academic work is consistently top notch and among the best in every class. At the same time, during his sophomore year, he qualified for the outdoor NESCAC Championships in both the 100m and 200m. His 4x100m relay team ran the third best time in that event in the history of Tufts University Track and Field. He currently has responsibility of leading many of the sprinter practices. In the past July, Mickey was one of 800 US delegates to compete at the Maccabiah Games, Track and Field, in Israel. He was among one of the youngest competitors in several individual events, and ran the first leg of the US 4x100m relay team, which won the silver medal.
For the summer of 2006 he is supported by the Summer Scholars Program to work with Professor Lynne Pepall of the Economics department. They are researching risk and decision making under uncertainty through the NBC game show "Deal or No Deal." In his senior year he will write a senior honors thesis in the Economics department applying the research from the summer on how individuals choose between a sure thing and a risky bet, and the implications this has for insurance and financial markets.
Mickey is an extraordinary student with a lively intellect and an endearing enthusiasm toward life and learning. Despite all his heady achievements he is congenial, polite and pleasant, and he has a great and subtle sense of humor.
