Daily classes also include instruction in flamenco dancing and percussion. Through a combination of lecture, analysis, guided listening/vieweing, and performance of music and dance, students will leave this workship with a broad understanding of the current state of flamenco, its tradition, and its cultural context. Acclaimed percussionist and tabla player Jerry Leake is coleader of the world music ensemble Natraj and cofounder of the award-winning band Club d'Elf. He is featured on numerous recordings. On tabla, he has accompanied Ali Akbar Khan, Steven Gorn, Sharafat Ali Kahn, Kumkum Sanyal, and Purnima Sen. Leake has written seven widely used texts on Indian, West African, Latin American percussion, and advanced rhythm theory, and us on the faculty of New England Conservatory and Tufts University.
