Subject: Minutes for 9-18-96 meeting

Here are the minutes for the 9-18-96 meeting. It was a great meeting, especially since both Prof. Kreifeldt and Prof. Soracci attended. If you have any comments or questions about what went on, just mail them to the list.

• 1) If you did not already know it, we have a home page.

• 2) We also have a mailing list. If you are getting this message your on it. To post to it, address your email to tufts-hfes@emerald.tufts.edu. If you want to subscribe to it email a message to listproc@emerald.tufts.edu and in the body of the message put 'subscribe tufts-hfes NAME'

• 3) We have an internship bank with internship listings and reviews. Check out the web page or the bulletin board for more info.

• 4) Possible things for this year:
  • * Tour of the MIT Media Lab.
  • * Tour of usability labs at Lotus.
  • * Group meeting with New England Chapter
  • * Tour and/or speaker from Wildfire. Call 1-800-WILDFIRE for a cool demo of their voice mail and phone call routing system. (or check out http://www.wildfire.com).
  • * Talk by Lydia Valadis from AIR on voice recognition systems.
  • * Tour and/or speaker from IDEO (a product design company).
  • * Tour and/or speaker from Liberty Mutual (a major workmans comp insurance company that does a lot of research in ergonomics and workplace safety).
  • * Group project with Biomed Engineering Society

• 5) We currently are funded by the national HFES. We may be able to get money from the ME department.

• 6) Brad Helies is heading up a t-shirt design contest. We'll be selling them to ourselves and to alumni.

• 7) A mailing (snail mail) list of alumni of the program is being formed.

• 8) Ross's ergonomics project will (hopefully) be up on the web as a case study.

• 9) A few companies have expressed interest in sponsoring a usability lab on campus.

• 10) We are the one and only interdisciplinary human factors program in the country!

• 11) There are a few cool conferences HF related conferences coming up and you may be able to get Tufts to pay for you to go. Info will be posted to this list.
