JOB TITLE : Usability Engineer JOB LOCATION : Mountain View, California USABILITY ENGINEER -Web Financial Services -Business Products and Online Services Contribute creative user interface design ideas from a usability design perspective; translate field or lab collected customer data into innovative UI design solutions which address users' needs. As a key player in definition and design phases, work with Project and Product Managers to develop plans for usability research activities for products in the business unit. Plan and conduct priority usability research with teams, analyze data and share results to spark focused redesign efforts. Be available to consult on the design of other usability research. Provide prototyping support as needed. Provide input for strategic, cross-product research plans and projects. Help identify and implement software UI design solutions for breakthrough usability and improved user satisfaction. Participate as a team member focused on the usability design perspective and customer data collection and evaluation activities. Contribute design ideas to feature prototyping efforts and consult on general user interface design with teams in the business unit. Lead efforts to translate customer data into innovative, usable feature and interface designs. Contribute to prototyping efforts, as needed by the teams. Consult on software user interface design issues; perform periodic reviews of UI for interaction and model consistency within and across a family of products with the same target audience. Conduct priority usability research and report results as agreed to in the Usability Research Plan. Consult with teams on the design of other usability research projects in the business unit. Qualifications: * Minimum 3 years of human factors engineering, software interface design experience required, as a member of development teams; consumer market software design/ development experience necessary. * Excellent communication and organization skills; knowledge of statistics. * Proven interview and observation skills; experience in survey design and administration, user needs analysis and prototype and usability testing. * Visual Basic, Hypercard or other prototype software experience desired. * Web UI design and/or financial or small business accounting experience desired. * Advanced degree in psychology, usability or human factors engineering--minimum masters degree or explicit course work in experimental or field research methods for software usability design.
