Nortel Co-op/Intern Position Research Triangle Park, North Carolina Jan 1997 - Dec 1997 Position Purpose: You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of human factors professionals in direct support of new product development, advanced telecommunications technology, and best practices for new concept creation. Primary Responsibilities: With guidance from an experienced project leader, you will collaborate in understanding user requirements, proposing design concepts, and evaluating overall usability of new telecommunication products. You will apply your education and experience to improving user-centered design methods, requirements methods, and team awareness of evaluation methods. You will write design proposals (mainly for software interfaces and interactive voice interfaces), project plans, test plans, and reports, all within the context of industry and scientific literatures. You will have an opportunity to gain human factors experience in telecommunication systems design for the future. Minimum Competencies Required: Experience: Minimum of one year of research or applied experience related to psychology of human-computer interaction or human factors of system design and evaluation. Skills: Prefer telecommunications design and evaluation skills. Require GUI design and prototyping skills. Require Mac/PC, writing, speaking, and teamwork skills. Assets include research planning, design of experiments and surveys, data collection and analysis, and interpretation skills. Education: Masters degree or two years of course work emphasizing applied human factors required.
