The SIEMENS Usability Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, is
looking for motivated individuals to assist in user interface
design and evaluation projects. Application domains include
industrial automation and telecommunications.

The Usability Center provides usability engineering and
design support to a variety of SIEMENS product developments
in Germany and the US. We work in international teams with
marketing, development, and customers to create software
interfaces that are appealing and easy-to-use for users in
all target markets.

Responsibilities

The involvement includes assisting in interface prototyping,
usability testing, and usability inspections. Tasks include:
* Develop paper and software prototypes.
* Discuss prototypes with developers and test with customers.
* Help in defining cross-application interface design elements.
* Assist in test plan development, equipment and software
  setup, logging of test activities, production of summary
  videos, documentation of test results.
* Conduct usability inspections.

Qualifications

The applicant should be at least a sophomore and should have
a background in human factors or in graphic or industrial
design, computer science, psychology, engineering, or
technical writing, with a strong interest in human-computer
interaction. Familiarity with at least some of the following
tools is required:
* prototyping tools such as Director, Visual Basic, or Smalltalk
* user interface toolkits under Windows 95/NT and/or UNIX
* documentation and presentation tools such as Word and PowerPoint
* video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere
