Speech Design and Usability West Palm Beach, FL Co-ops / Internships in Human Factors Begin: June 1997 (Specific beginning date is negotiable) Duration: 9-12 months Description: The co-op position gives qualified students the opportunity to work on the development of new products for IBM's World-Wide Speech Systems. The Human Factors group in the Speech Design and Usability department represents the end user in the design and development of speech-enabled software in West Palm Beach. The co-op will support design and testing of products in all phases of development. Possible areas of work: * Competitive analysis, focus groups, usability tests * Field test * Design, analysis, and psychometrics of surveys * Human computer interface look and feel / User centered design * Speech recognition systems * Human-computer dialog Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Ph.D. or Master's degree program in Psychology, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or related discipline with a primary focus on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The successful student will have skills in experimental methods, human testing, and the application of human factors principles. Applicants should have a working knowledge of PCs including, for example, Windows (strongly preferred) or OS/2. Familiarity with prototyping tools (such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi, Authorware) is desirable. Demonstrated independent research skills are a definite plus. Please apply by April 31, 1997.
