Visit http://www.ftlauderdale.com/ for more details. PROGRAM STRUCTURE: Candidates will be considered for immediate 3, 6, 9, or 12 month positions, including summer internships. The ideal candidate will have a broad background in the content and methods of human factors, HCI, and usability testing, with formal education in human factors, psychology, or engineering. Both masters and doctoral applicants are encouraged. The candidate must possess excellent verbal, visual, and written communications skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Work is performed on site in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The internship is a paid position, with salary dependent on level of education. Motorola benefits are provided, including paid holidays. Travel expenses for relocation are reimbursed. A housing allowance is also provided for those coming from outside the area. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns will apply user-centered design and evaluation skills to the development of two-way radio and communications products. The student will work closely with human factors, industrial design, hardware and software engineering, marketing, and customers, to ensure ease-of-use. Typical assignments include: needs analysis and requirements definition; rapid prototyping; hardware and software design consulting; and field and laboratory usability testing. This is a high-energy group, committed to developing excellent usable products. We also expect to be learning from you -- you will help us keep up with new technology and research for human factors, user interaction design, and usability engineering. QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES: The candidate *must* still be a matriculated student who will be returning to school after the internship to be considered for these positions. Successful applicants for the Internship in Human Factors & Ergonomics will have these qualifications: (1) Completed 1, 2, or 3 years in an accredited M.S., M.A., or Ph.D. graduate degree program in Human Factors, Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline. (2) Coursework in human factors, ergonomics, learning and memory, cognitive psychology, software engineering, visual interaction design, technical communication, or statistics and experimental design, maintaining a graduate GPA of 3.0/4.0. (3) A strong desire to apply what he or she has learned in school in order to develop professional and consumer products which are easy-to-use. (4) Knowledge about human/computer interaction and user interaction design. (5) Skill in performing user interface prototyping on one or more platforms with computer-based tools. (6) Experience designing, planning, conducting, and interpreting results from behavioral research experiments or usability studies. (7) Professional competence and interest demonstrated by creative energy, initiative, leadership, teamwork, and written and oral communications.
