Usability Internships with Symantec Symantec's Usability Engineering and Interface Design Group is looking for students who are currently enrolled in an advanced degree program in Experimental Psychology (Cognitive), Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, or a related discipline. Successful applicants will assist Symantec software product teams in customer focused design and product development activities. As an intern at Symantec you will have the opportunity to acquire real world experience in the design, evaluation and testing of graphical user interfaces for a variety of products designed for remote productivity, Internet development, and computer security and maintenance. You will be involved in all stages of the product development cycle. We currently have three internships available. These positions are at our Santa Monica, CA; Cupertino, CA, and Toronto, Canada locations. These positions are available immediately, and are for a period of 3 months to a year, depending upon the negotiated start date. Successful applicants should be nearing completion of their degree program and fit the following profile: -Excellent academic standing and making normal progress in their degree program -The ability to work in a cross functional team environment -Experienced in empirical research, experimental design and methodology for the behavioral sciences -Knowledgeable in HCI, including user and task analysis, design, and usability evaluations -Have some knowledge of the retail software market -Excellent written and oral presentation skills -Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, when necessary -Flexible, organized, and attentive to details -Familiar with Windows and Macintosh platforms and applications, as well as Web based applications and implementations -Familiar with prototyping tools such as Visual Basic, HTML, Super Card, etc. TO APPLY - Send email to sbridges@symantec.com with "INTERN POSITION" in the subject line.
