Exciting Human Factors career opportunity offering challenge, travel, and personal growth with one of the world's top computer companies. NCR's Atlanta-based Human Factors group has openings for HCI designers. We are consultants and entrepreneurs within the Retail and Financial industries. We run our department as if it were our own business. We need team-oriented, articulate UCD practitioners. Our HFE team has grown from a group of four individuals to a highly motivated team of 15 professionals. The expertise and skill sets within the group vary from cognitive engineers, to ergonomists. Early on, we fought the typical HF wars within this engineering and manufacturing facility and have won enough credibility and had enough successes to warrant a new lab, team growth, and expansion into Europe and Canada. The expectations for our team has also grown, and we still have more challenges ahead. WHAT DO WE DO: We are consultants. We consult internally, when projects budget for HF work (R&D funding). We consult externally, to supplement R&D funding and as a needed/requested service for our clients. We run our business as if it were our own business. We are all entrepreneurs and are constantly involved in many different activities while juggling many projects at once. Creativity, innovation, motivation, salesmanship, diplomacy, communication, and much more are part of our daily activities above and beyond project work. As a team, we design, test, and implement our own structure, organization, operation, and business model. We are firm believers in staying up to date and maintaining a high level of expertise. To this end we encourage everyone to attend tradeshows, conferences, and classes. As internal consultants, we work with our R&D engineers on both hardware and software products. We perform analysis, design, and evaluations. We travel to trade shows and provide support for our products as well as promote our own HF services. As external consultants, most of our work is within the Retail and Financial industries, however we have done work in government, transportation, and other industries as well. Our work does involve travel, both domestic and international. We conduct much of our analysis, evaluations, and presentations at customer sites (headquarters and stores) which span the globe. Here is a sample of just a few of our domestic clients: Food and drug (Kroger, Safeway, Albertson's, .....), Hospitality (KFC, Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, .....), Department Stores, GMS (JC Penny's, Rich's, Sears, .....), Specialty Stores (Victoria's Secret, .....), Mass Merchandisers (Wal*Mart, Target, KMart, .....) Convenience Stores (7-Eleven, Tokheim, ....) Financial (Bank of America, Mellon Bank, Centra, Telco, ....) Our work with external clients provides us with insight and data which makes us invaluable to our internal clients (engineers, product managers, and marketing). One of the many rewards of our job is working with retailers that almost everyone sees and interacts with often. It is very inspiring to see the results of your work in action in environments frequented by friends, family, and the general public. Once you're a part of our team, you will never walk into a retail or financial institution again with the same old perspective.
