Job responsibilities of a Usability Engineer include: Designing all aspects of the user interface for applications based on Microsoft Windows family, X-Windows/Motif, World Wide Web, Java AWT (abstract windowing toolkit) User needs analysis User-centered task analysis (including task flows) Development and documentation of thin and detailed GUI (Graphical User Interface) requirements Presentation of requirements at internal reviews Presentation of requirements at customer reviews Support of software development and testing organizations in their design, development and testing of features and problem fixes Designing and conducting usability testing Support of the deployment organization (organization that deploys product/solution to customer site) Position Requirements: Degree in human factors, psychology, industrial engineering, computer science, or other technical degree, or equivalent work experience Analytical skills to investigate and define complex user task flows and then design object-oriented user interfaces that support those flows Strong background in expressing ideas and solutions in concise, clear and precise manner both verbally and in writing Excellent analysis and problem solving skills Familiarity with participatory methods for task analysis Understanding of software systems solutions (Bellcore does not design or develop hardware solutions) Usability engineering/GUI design experience Familiarity with object-oriented GUI design Excellent written and verbal communications skills Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills to work with customers (both internal and external) and team members Project management and planning skills Desirable: Ability to design and execute usability tests is a big plus Object-oriented design experience Ability to travel to customer locations --- Ron Levenberg Bellcore 444 Hoes Lane, Room 1H210 Piscataway, NJ 08854 rlevenbe@notes.cc.bellcore.com (732) 699-8504 (908) 699-8504 Fax: (732) 336-2732
