The Service Concept and Design department at GTE Laboratories is still searching for students to fill paid positions, working about 8-12 hours per week. (Never mind what you may have heard before, we are _not_ asking you to work 20+ hours a week). The are a number of projects going on in the department, all having to do with human factors. The one I am most familiar with is the SuperPages Yellow Pages project, a yellow pages service which is available on the Web (http://yp.gte.net). This involves both usability testing, user interface design work and prototyping new features. There are a number of other projects underway involving Internet telephony, group collaboration software, and other more short term usability projects. GTE Laboratories undertakes research and development for the full range of technologies required by GTE Corporation's core telecommunications businesses. GTE is one of the largest U.S.-based local telephone companies and a leading cellular-service provider. Its wireline and wireless operations form a market area covering more than one third of the country's population. In addition, GTE is actively growing businesses in the video and Internet areas. (Visit GTE's homepage at http://www.gte.com, and try our national yellow pages directory at http://superpages.GTE.net.) GTE Laboratories offers attractive facilities located in a quiet, wooded setting just outside Boston on the Route 128 loop; a highly competitive salary and benefits package; an on-site fitness facility; medical/life/dental insurance; and pension, savings, and investment plans. Please send your resume by email to labs.employment@gte.com or mail it to the Employment Department, Box JS, GTE Laboratories Incorporated, 40 Sylvan Road, Waltham, MA 02254, or fax it to (617) 466-2164. An equal opportunity employer, M/F/D/V.
