Hewlett Packard has a Human Factors Engineering job opening. This opening is to fill a recently vacated Human Factors Engineering position in the VCD software section. The VCD division is located in Vancouver, Washington (just across the river from Portland, OR) and is responsible for the design of DeskJet Printers to be used in the home. At VCD, the human factors skill set is a necessary ingredient in the software development process. This individual will contribute to the continued improvement of the printing system's user interface and expand the understanding of printer customer requirements. For further information please contact Debbie Mrazek at dmrazek@vcd.hp.com MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Provides technical support to division research & development and marketing in integrating human factors engineering principles and evaluation techniques into product design. Provides development teams with technical information on human factors engineering principles and ensures the integration of these principles in product design. Performs task analysis and user field studies to help generate new product concepts and user interface requirements. Participates with the development teams in generating and testing product prototypes and products. Develops tools to support usability activities. Participates in development and testing of Customer Education materials. Provides direction and expertise to product design and marketing within and across product divisions. Requires up to six hours of typing per day. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Minimum degree (or equivalent):BS/BA. Preferred degree: MS/MA. BS/BA in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors or Experimental/Cognitive Psychology or equivalent combination of education and experience. MS/MA is strongly preferred. Possess in-depth knowledge of software design, usability evaluation methods, perception, cognition, experimental design, statistics and learning theory. Prefer experience performing usability evaluations. Prefer experience in both Windows and Macintosh environments. Demonstrated communications and organizational skills. Ability to effectively interface with representatives of R&D, marketing and printer users. Be able to train others and be a resource within the division on technical standards, usability evaluation methods and principles of human factors.
