Job Description: In coordination with other Human Factors Engineers, works with one or more internal HP clients to assure that products meet usability guidelines and goals. Influences the creation of usability goals, conducts user needs analysis to document and help the client to understand customer/end-user's working environment and environmental needs, performs usability tests, constructs use models and usability prototypes including UI designs, evaluates the effectiveness of designs using heuristic or experimental evaluation. Acts as agent of change to help organization move toward a user centered model of design. Other Duties: - Maintains awareness and stays current with state-of-the-art technology, design, and competitive product trends in usability/quality. - Documents and reviews progress and results of usability services with clients including recommendations, goals, risks, and accomplishments. Facilitates resolution of issues resulting from test data. - Contributes to the Human Factors Engineering group by participating in recruitment efforts, process standardization and new process implementation, and effort for continual improvement of Human Factors services to internal and external customers. Musts: - Masters degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology (with emphasis in Human Factors), Experimental Psychology (emphasis in Human Factors), Industrial Engineering (emphasis in Human Factors), or related degrees. - Knowledge and experience with formal and informal human factors/usability techniques such as: task analysis, usability inspections, heuristic evaluation, contextual inquiry, experimental design, descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, etc. - Ability to independently consult with product development labs on product usability issues. - Demonstrated communication, time management, & organizational skills. Desired: - Ph.D. in Psychology / Human Factors. - Demonstrated mastery of hardware and software UI design principles. - Demonstrated mastery of user centered techniques. - Successful experience working as part of hardware or software product development and marketing teams. Working Environment: This is a consulting/design position, rather than a research position. This position would be working closely with product development labs. High value is placed on analysis and test techniques that minimize cost and time. Work environment is informal, with low hierarchy. Team members are expected to perform a wide-ranging set of duties to accomplish project goals. Position may require some travel to various company sites, depending on work assignment. Visits to offsite clients usually require stays of several days to a week.
