Co-op/Intern Position: Center for Applied Medical Informatics Broad Statement of Responsibilities The Center for Applied Medical Informatics (CAMI) is continuously recruiting for a Human Factors & Medicine co-op (intern) position (4-8 months). Openings are available for THIS SUMMER, as well as Fall and Spring semesters of next year. The co-op participates in all aspects of user-centered design of health care computer and telecommunication systems; and some medical device design. Additionally, this person collaborates with the CAMI faculty in proposing and executing research projects in this arena, and assists with teaching and training of medical and graduate students in applied medical informatics. Education: Working toward an advanced degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Medical Informatics, or Library and Information Science. Experience: Hands-on experience with human factors methodology, including heuristic evaluation, contextual inquiry, and low-fidelity (iterative) prototyping is necessary. Previous job or project experience in a health care setting is a definite plus. Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of partners on design projects (e.g., government agencies, private corporations, hospitals) a plus. Experience with computers and software, including word processing, graphics, and presentation packages is required. Experience with prototyping software, video communication systems, local area networks (LAN), medical information search software (e.g., Grateful Med) is desirable. Personal Characteristics: We are seeking students with professional demeanor and a self-starter attitude. Students should be able to independently organize and prioritize own activities, as well as working in a team-oriented environment. Setting: MSU/KCMS is one of six campuses for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine; and closely allied with Kalamazoošs two tertiary care hospitals, Borgess and Bronson. In addition to 44 third and fourth-year medical students, there are over 150 resident physicians in nine residency programs: internal medicine, pediatrics, combined medicine-pediatrics, family practice, psychiatry, general surgery, orthopedics, emergency medicine, and transitional.
