U S WEST Information Technologies in Denver, Colorado is looking for a summer intern in human factors engineering. Our Human Factors Engineering group focuses on the design and development of internal operations and support systems for U S WEST's telecommunications employees in our 14 state region. These positions are for approximately 12 weeks, with the possibility for extension. Activities may include: + working with users and software development teams to gather and analyze user and task requirements + prototyping user interface design alternatives + usability studies of application user interface designs + researching various usability issues with the World Wide Web + assisting in the design and HTML development of U S WEST web sites + supporting the development of human factors "best practices" Desired Qualifications: ---------------------- + pursuing a graduate degree in a Human Factors related field (such as Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, or Industrial Engineering with a particular emphasis in user interface design, usability, and human-computer interaction) + user interface design principles and guidelines + familiarity with usability testing + experience with HTML and Web site design + understanding of graphical design principles + knowledge of statistics Our 18-person multidisciplinary staff of human factors engineers work on a variety of company projects. We maintain our own human factors library and lab equipment, and work and play in a state with 50 mountains over 14,000 feet.
