Requires working on customer site, conducting structured interviews, observations of operations activities, control room evaluation, document analysis, evaluation of operations practices, preparation and presentation of report of results. Spend 15-30% of time at customer sites. Provides an opportunity to learn about the new area of Abnormal Situation Management and industrial process customer needs in the area of human factors and ergonomics as applied to plant operations. Specific needs are for two to three Human Factors persons. The successful candidate will apprentice as a member of a team headed by the current practitioners. The team is being expanded and ultimately team members will be expected to lead their own teams in conducting about 8 of these assessements per year. Requirements: Education: Masters or Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Experimental Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Cognitive Science; equivalent capability through experience will be considered. Experience: Minimum 2 years industrial experience in the skills below. Required skills: * Knowledge and experience in applying human factors principles for effective control room ergonomics and design * Knowledge and experience in applying human factors design principles for effective human interaction with computers, machines, coworkers, and documentation * Excellent teaming capabilities within the assessment team * Conducting structured interviews one on one * Conducting task and organization structured analysis * Conducting structure and content analysis of plant documentation * Writing observations and summary findings in concise and clear style * Several additional of the desired skills below Desired skills: * Above skills applied to industrial processes * Understanding of industrial processes * Understanding of industrial processes control systems * Human Reliability Analysis * Incident analysis and reporting techniques * Training - foundation, on-the-job, & refresher * Emergency planning & response systems * Operating procedures * Shift & job rotation, Work Structure Analysis * Managing project activities to meet resource constraints and objectives Other requirements: As a part of the site assessment activities it will be necessary to wear personal protective equipment including fire resistant coveralls, hard hats, ear protection, and eye protection. Some sites prohibit facial hair. Incumbents must be able to climb caged ladders (singly, and in sequence to heights of 30 meters) negotiate stairways and catwalks, and conduct observations under normal refinery operating conditions including the presence of noise, high ambient temperatures, high places, and confined spaces.
