Darin Ellis will offer a graduate research assistant (GRA) position for a qualified student seeking to pursue a Ph.D. in the area of cognitive human factors engineering. The position is funded by a multi-year grant from the National Institute on Aging to investigate age-related differences in visual information processing. Applications of this work include driving, human-computer interaction, and visual quality control inspection. Students with interest in pursuing either an Industrial Engineering or interdisciplinary (IE/Psychology) doctoral degree are encouraged to apply. Dr. Ellis is jointly appointed in the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering and Institute of Gerontology. The student s academic home will be the Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Department, while most research training will take place in Dr. Ellis s lab in the IOG. Desirable (not required) qualifications obtained at the undergraduate or graduate (MS) level include: * Coursework in human factors * Experimental design, data analysis, statistics * Experience recruiting experimental participants * Discrete event simulation & computational modeling * Probability & queuing theory The GRA appointment will be made for an initial period of one year beginning Fall 1998; renewals are expected for up to 3 additional years. The appointment carries a competitive stipend, full tuition reimbursement, and an excellent benefits package. Dr. Ellis will facilitate the student's application for graduate admission.
