Prof. Sal Soraci Undergraduate and Graduate Student Internships in Transportation Human Factors: The VOLPE National Transportation Systems Center's Operator Performance and Safety Analysis Division conducts studies related to the design and evaluation of a wide variety of transportation systems. Recent project areas include: human factors suppo rt for air traffic control system development, aircraft cockpit human factors, aviation weather product development, research on the air traffic control display color pallette, locomotive cab ergonomics, and fatigue and stress in high-speed rail. For an i llustration, see the website: www.volpe.dot.gov/opsad We are interested in advanced undergraduate students who have taken courses that cover at least some of the following areas: Engineering Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Interface Design, Computer Simulation, and Statistics/Experimental Design. In the recent past, undergraduate interns have conducted literature and information searches, provided computer support (database, spreadsheets) and data reduction, and scheduled and tested subjects. One or two advanced undergraduate interns are typically hi red each term. We are also currently interested in hiring one or two graduate level students with strengths in statistics and experimental design.
