From: Dr. William A Thedford System Resources Corporation 128 Wheeler Road Burlington, MA 01803 Phone: (781)270-9228 ext. 224 e-mail: William.Thedford@srcorp.com Subject: Aviation Research and Development Programs Dear Dr. Soraci, I am writing to request your assistance in gathering information about aviation research and development programs. Under a NASA contract, we are assembling as much "Who's doing what" as possible. Sources of this data include government, industry, academia, Federally Funded Research and Development Companies and Eurocontrol. The final product will be delivered to NASA later this year with an assessment of what additional R&D programs are needed to satisfy the system requirements derived from the "Air Traffic Services Concept of Operations for the National Airspace System in 2005," Federal Aviation Administration, September 30, 1997. With your assistance we can include your programs in the database which is intended to identify those projects which address any of the derived requirements mentioned above. Please provide us any information on your R&D efforts that you are willing to have in the public domain by late September so we can include it in the analysis. You will have the opportunity to review and comment on the use we have made of the material you provide before the study is finalized. The complete results of the analysis will be publicly available in the relatively near future. We are specifically soliciting information regarding R&D programs that you have currently underway or have planned for the future. We are able to accept the information in most any form but we prefer an electronic format like Word, Excel, text, or .pdf. The information fields that would be most useful are Program Name and Reference (a traceable identifier) Contact Information (name, address, phone, e-mail) Sponsor Abstract (the intent of the work) Benefits and Expected Results Schedule Please feel free to provide any additional information that you think helpful. Our first round of analysis is planned to start in mid September so we will be grateful for you assistance in helping us to meet this abbreviated schedule. Program summaries may be e-mailed or sent on a zip or floppy disk by mail. If there are any questions or comments, please contact me. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this request. Again, your participation will be appreciated. Regards, William A. Thedford, Ph.D. Advanced Technologies Division
