Paid observer needed 9/11-9/26/98 An observer is needed to record the activities of railroad dispatchers as part of a federally funded project studying workload, stress and fatigue. The location is Boston's South Station. This work is to be performed under the direction of George Kuehn from the IIT Research Institute in Chicago. The observer will observe and record the actions of train dispatchers as assigned during sessions of 8 hours duration. Sessions may occur at any time during both day and night hours except that no more than 12 hours of observation will be assigned in any 24-hour period. Work will begin with a working dinner on 9/11/98. Observer training will take place on 9/12 and 9/13. It is likely that there will be no days off during the work period of September 14, 1998 through September 26, 1998. It is anticipated that approximately 120 hours of observations will be made during this time. Following the period of observation, and subject to the mutual agreement of the Observer and IITRI, additional work may be requested by IITRI to organize project materials. This potential additional work would take place between September 26 and October 31, 1998. Compensation will be at the rate of $18 per hour for meetings, training sessions and actual observations. Local travel and meal costs during work periods will also be compensated. If interested, please contact George Kuehn at (312) 567-4148 during business hours.
