    Lab Guidelines

    • You must attend your assigned lab section, and work in your lab team through the semester. Each member is expected to actively participate in labs, and to help each other.
    • There are four labs during the course, plus one project which will take one or two weeks.
    • Each student must keep a lab journal. The journal should contain:
      • all information you may need if you were asked to repeat the lab precisely
      • all qualitative observations during the experiment
      • brief notes on your data, and filenames where complete raw data is stored
      • any “glitches” that may have interrupted or affected your measurements
      • answers to all discussion questions in the lab handout
    • Each team is responsible for writing ONE lab report, due on the last day of class. The particular lab for which to write the report will be assigned randomly, and you will be referring to your journal for data and observations made during the lab. Each team member will receive the same grade for the lab report.
    • Lab attendance is mandatory, and there are no make up labs.
      • if you miss a lab, points will be deducted from the Lab portion of your grade
      • if you cannot attend your scheduled lab section for any reason and wish to attend another section, please contact the TA at least one week in advance to arrange it. Note: Schedule changes will be made only if the TA is contacted at least one week in advance, and there is a lab section available to switch into.
