Experimental Setup

The data is obtained using LabView 3.1 running on a PowerMac 8100. The experimental samples are placed in a micro-reflectance spectrometer. The spectrometer is made up of a microscope, a CVI monochromator as the light source, a CVI photobyte to convert reflected radiation into data, and a Sony video camera.

The LabView program, Reflectivity 3.1, is composed of several virtual instruments which work together to control the light source and the light meter. The data from Reflectivity is placed in a Microsoft Excel file and normalized with data taken from a standardized aluminum mirror of known reflectivity. The following formula was used to calculate the reflectivity:

It is then plotted, with incident light wavelength on the x-axis and percentage of radiation reflected on the y-axis.
