On
leave from Camp Verde High School in scenic Camp Verde, AZ, John has previously
taught introductory and advanced biology and was science department chair.
He is a graduate of Stanford University (MA 85) and was an anthropology
major as an undergraduate at the Colorado College. John and colleague Matt
Malloy have developed innovative, award-winning science programs that reflect
their commitment to quality science education.
John
has worked ardently for quality science standards in Arizona, and led
the successful challenge to include explicit coverage of evolution in
the states science standards. A member of NABTs National Education
Committee, John hopes to initiate changes that positively impact teacher
preservice preparation in science and is working toward establishing a
state chapter of NABT in Arizona.
Passionate
about developing, implementing, and disseminating rigorous and exciting
inquiry-based, hands-on lab activities emphasizing evolution and the nature
of science, John has presented workshops at county, state, and national
conventions and written on-air and on-line curricula for the Discovery
Channel.
