It all happened here - Byfield, MA is where science teachers from around the world came to share ideas, techniques and fun! One of the closest working relationships of the Wright Center is with the Governor Dummer Academy, a relatively nearby private secondary school in Byfield, Massachusetts. The Academy also benefits from funding provided directly by the Fondation H. Dudley Wright of Geneva. In this partnership, Wright Center personnel and Wright Fellows collaborate with talented high-school teachers at the Academy, led by master teacher and science-department head, Steve Metz, in the creation of a whole new integrated high-school science curriculum centered about key science concepts, such as energy, environment and evolution, rather than the classical disciplines of physics, chemistry and biology. |

Each summer, the Wright Center and the Governor Dummer Academy co-sponsor a popular Frontiers in Science Teacher Workshop. This is the principal means to disseminate to a wider audience of teachers the innovative science curriculum now under development and testing at the Academy. The Wright Center also coordinates involvement by the Tufts' faculty in the Academy efforts, thereby providing critical feedback to the teachers, while serving as a source of scientific expertise. Thus, the partnership itself is an educational experiment: A genuine commitment by a research university to work closely with a motivated high school in a sustained manner over many years.
Wildlife abounds - Many teachers found their way down to the ocean where they were introduced to the wide variety of organisms inhabiting the intertidal zone . Afterward they cooled off with a little wine and cheese (enlarge image).
