Option for Obtaining CORI (Criminal Background) Checks
PI’s have 3 options available:
-
If the PI is doing research at a school or a particular institution: They request a CORI form from the place where they will be doing research, fill it out and return it in person with a government issued photo ID. In this case, the forms are given to a certified staff member who will take care of requesting and obtaining the CORI. The cost will typically be covered by the institution.
-
For Eliot-Pearson affiliates only, you can contact Josephine Carbonaro at josephine.carbonaro@tufts.edu
-
A person can obtain his/her own CORI documents. In this case, fill out the form found here and sign it in front of a notary public. Then, a copy will be mailed to you personally and you can give a copy to any institution you choose. This option costs $25.
Time Tables and Retention of CORI: The process of obtaining a CORI by an institution or individual generally takes about two weeks. CORI should be kept by each requesting agency for a maximum of three years.
