Training Requirement Specific to PIs on Institutional Biosafety Committee Registrations

In response to significant changes in NIH guidelines and regulations, and increased scrutiny by the Office of Biotechnology Activities at the NIH, the Institutional Biosafety Committee has instituted a new training requirement for Principal Investigators (PIs) with active Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) registrations at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center. The online, 30-minute, narrated slide presentation walks viewers through NIH and Tufts requirements, including those for registering recombinant DNA and reporting unexpected incidents, and possible consequences of noncompliance. The many examples explain and highlight the take-home message of each major point.

This training only needs to be completed once by each PI. If you are new to the IBC system, please ensure that you complete this training. It can be accessed on the Office of the Vice Provost website at:
http://www.tufts.edu/central/research/IBC/PI_training.html.

After viewing the online rDNA training, PIs should complete the two-page NIH guidelines training test (the pdf that also contains the training slides), then print and send the completed test to:

Tufts Environmental Health & Safety
Posner Hall 105
200 Harrison Avenue
Boston, MA 02111
