Welcome New Member of OTL&IC Team

Linara (Lina) Axanova, PhD, joined the Office for Technology Licensing and Industry Collaboration (OTL&IC) in October 2010. She is a licensing associate who is the primary contact for material transfer agreements and nondisclosure agreements for Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center. Axanova also works with the OTL&IC case managers on marketing Tufts technologies.

Material transfer agreements (MTAs) are used when research materials are transferred between academic and academic or industry colleagues. An MTA prescribes an understanding of how research materials will be used and what rights each party will have to the results of research involving the materials. MTAs also determine who is liable for damages that could result from mishandling of hazardous materials. A nondisclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement or a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), is a contract between two or more parties that outlines information that the parties agree will remain confidential among them.

Axanova has an MS in food technologies from the State University of Technology in Kazan, Russia; an MS in foods and nutrition from Purdue University; and a PhD in cancer biology from Wake Forest University. While working on her PhD, Axanova did a part-time internship at the Wake Forest University Office of Technology Asset Management. “I did this internship and absolutely loved it,” said Axanova. “It was supposed to be three months long and it ended up being almost a year because I just wanted to learn more, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.” She also took a commercializing innovation course from the Wake Forest Business School.

Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center faculty and staff should direct any questions they have concerning material transfer agreements and nondisclosure agreements to Axanova, who is well prepared to assist them. She looks forward to working with the Tufts community to advance research and technology transfer.
