Tufts Postdoc Social Events
Recent Events Held By the Postdoctoral Office
Posted: May 10, 2013
There were two successful events hosted by the Postdoctoral Office recently on the Medford Campus. On Wednesday, May 1, 2013, there was a lovely lunch at Moultons Seafood, an excellent seafood restaurant a few blocks from campus on Winthrop Street, Medford. Nineteen of us enjoyed great fish and even better conversation. It was gratifying to see that Alfredo Bautista organized a follow-up pub night meet up at the Burren.
On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, we hosted a public speaking workshop led by Michael Lueger of the Tufts Drama Department. Twenty postdocs, grad students, and a couple of faculty received tips on public speaking and expounded in groups on such topics as why partying is more important than curriculum and teaching in preparation for the zombie apocalypse. All of this was under Mike's watchful eye and coaching with helpful advice from Mike Roberts (Occupational Therapy). Mike reported back to me that it was his most satisfying workshop experience in two years of doing this.

New Postdoc Initiated Project Fund
Posted: April 12, 2013
I am pleased to announce a new fund provided by the postdoctoral office for postdoc initiated events. I have set aside $1,000 to provide funding for events and activities based on your ideas and efforts. This is based on a similar fund established by the Stanford Postdoctoral Association, which I saw presented at the recent National Postdoctoral Association meeting. I hope to fund about five projects with these resources. Projects will be reviewed based on how well they enhance the postdoctoral community, provide outreach to our neighborhoods or increase diversity on our campuses. If you are interested, please send me a 1-page proposal at daniel.jay@tufts.edu that includes a description of your event or activity, which postdoctoral scholars are involved, the budget and how the funds will be used and what you see as a benefit for the listed criteria. Proposals will be reviewed as they come in on a rolling basis until the fund runs out. I hope that these resources will provide opportunity for you to work together to enrich our research community and Tufts and its neighborhoods.
