Buddhist Sangha at Tufts

The Buddhist Sangha at Tufts has been bringing Buddhist practice and thought to the Tufts campus for over three years. As one member of a close-knit community of religious groups, the Sangha is both involved in interfaith events and offers myriad activities of its own throughout the year. The core of these activities is the Sangha weekly meeting. Casual and open, the meetings bring ecumenical teaching and discussion of Buddhist philosophy and practice to those familiar and unfamiliar with the subject. Every week new people stop by -- some of whom have been practicing for years, and some of whom don't know the first thing about Buddhism -- to ask specific questions or just to listen in and quickly learn about the religion that is enjoying an era of unprecedented popularity in the West. We begin meetings with a short meditation and end with a longer one for which innovative listening aides are available. The most well-known and widely attended Sangha events are our talks -- over the last year, we have brought multiple lamas and other Buddhist speakers to campus. These events are of course also open to anyone interested, as is our Wednesday morning led meditation in Goddard Chapel. In the 2005-06 school year we hope to continue business as usual and perhaps reach a greater number of students than we have in the past. Buddhist practice has a lot to offer, and for those interested, the Sangha is here educate.

For more information about our activites, email Jason Sack at Jason.Sack@tufts.edu or Ben Roseth at Benjamin.Roseth@tufts.edu. Our faculty advisor is David Around.
