The primary aim of the Fletcher School is to offer a broad program of professional education in international relations to a select group of graduate students committed to maintaining the stability and prosperity of a complex, challenging, and increasingly global society. Gifts to the Fletcher School support the excellence in teaching and research that prepares today’s students for leadership roles in the public, private, and non-profit sectors worldwide.

Resources are vital to support Fletcher in its service to the world. Toward that end, the school has a Beyond Boundaries goal of $100 million to better fulfill its charge of preparing leaders with a global perspective.
Comprehensive Campaign Goals
| Student Aid | $44.5 million |
| Faculty & Research | $42 million |
| Building Renovations | $6.5 million |
| Annual Fund | $7 million |
Your gifts to the Fletcher School sustain and strengthen four key
priorities:
Increase accessibility for the most talented and deserving students
A major increase in funding for financial aid is essential if Fletcher is to continue to fulfill its mission to serve local, national and international communities in their search to develop relationships of mutual benefit, security and justice in an increasingly interdependent world. Fletcher must continue to attract and yield students of the highest potential, regardless of ability to pay, including international students from developing countries and students of color from within the United States.
Last year, Fletcher was able to award an average financial aid grant of $7,000. With annual tuition and living expenses totaling roughly $50,000, Fletcher remains beyond reach for too many admitted students. At present, Fletcher students graduate from our two-year master’s program with an average debt burden of about $50,000, not including any debt from their undergraduate or other graduate studies. This fact, we fear, influences our students’ career decisions. The need to increase financial aid to our students is our greatest strategic challenge and priority.
Build a scholarly community at the nexus of theory and practice
Fletcher’s student enrollment, 50 percent female and 40 percent international, already reflects the rich diversity of the global community. We are committed to hiring faculty who reflect this diverse student body. Fletcher will add significantly to its number of female and international faculty, while at the same time strengthen support for its interdisciplinary fields of diplomacy, history, and politics; international law and organizations; and international business and economics.
We seek to expand and strengthen three signature academic programs in international environmental studies, international human security/social change across borders, and international business/management, while advancing the public diplomacy legacy of famed newsman Edward R. Murrow.
Create a world-class home for a world-class school
Master plan renovations have been undertaken to ensure Fletcher’s classrooms, study areas, library, and offices are on par with the School’s world-class stature and support the expression and synthesis of ideas and points of view by all who use our three academic buildings (Goddard, Mugar and Cabot).
Support the Fletcher Fund
Annual giving is an ongoing, vital source of support for The Fletcher School. We invite participation at all levels and encourage leadership gifts and multi-year commitments. Gifts to the Fund help Fletcher:
- offer better financial aid packages, which allow the school to yield some of the best and brightest students from around the world
- help fund internships so students can gain much-needed experiential knowledge
- support faculty development, the Ginn library, and many other areas critical to the school’s mission
Tuition and fees cover only 63 percent of The Fletcher School’s budget needs, creating a “hidden scholarship” for every student. Gifts to the Fletcher Fund have a profound impact on daily operations, and account for approximately 5 percent of the school’s budget. Learn more about the Fund, or make a gift online today.
A Vision for the Future
Austin Barclay Fletcher dreamed of a school that would “provide practical service in a disordered world.” The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy that bears his name remains dedicated to educating those who choose to lead in the international arena.
The Fletcher School ensures that tomorrow’s global leaders in all fields of international affairs receive the best education possible to enable them to succeed in our increasingly complex and globalizing world. The foundation we provide in diplomacy, economics, law and business leads to a better understanding of the complex international problems confronting the world. The experts we produce are recognized worldwide as leaders in developing nonpartisan, rational approaches to world affairs.
Known for its flexible, interdisciplinary and innovative curriculum, strong sense of community, and global network, Fletcher has made the world a better place. We ask your help and seek your partnership to ensure that the world continues to benefit from leaders prepared by Fletcher.
