This Patriot's Day, the nearly 200 members of the sixth annual Tufts President's Marathon Challenge team will make the 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton, Mass., to Boston. While many of the team members are habitual marathoners or are committed to helping the team meet a fundraising goal of $400,000 for nutrition, medical and fitness research and education across Tufts, the reasons for running are more personal for some. It could be the memory of a beloved family member, a personal conviction to get healthy or a determination to beat the odds.

With the President's Marathon Challenge team poised for the 112th running of Boston's annual marathon, we present the stories of some of these members of the Tufts community for whom the marathon is a journey like no other.
