Rebecca J. Boulos (Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, USDA Doctoral Fellow in Obesity)
"As a member of the President's Marathon Challenge, I was fortunate enough to be on a team that resembled a true community; one that was headed by an amazing and unique Coach; and one that reflected Tufts' commitment to health and fitness - both for its students and for the broader community. In this photo are two of my teammates (L-R: Jesse Roberts, myself & Keith Lividini). We are sitting in front of the Tufts' cannon - painted by the Team in blue & yellow (PMC colors) for the Marathon - and are in front of the side that reads "we ::heart:: Don". This photo captures everything great about the PMC: from the camaraderie to the physical challenge of long-distance running; to the personal connection each of us feels with our Coach to our place in Tufts' history."
Katharine Burton (D'10)
"We are all third year dental students, we got snowed into the library the night before our last exam before winter break of second year. We thought it would be funny to email pictures of ourselves studying to Dr. [Michael] Kahn and let him know just how dedicated we were."
Peter Evangelista (M'11)

Ethan Fechter-Leggett (V'10)
"Here are 3 photos that were taken during the Clinical Skills class in the veterinary medicine program at Tufts. I think they all show that hands-on learning isn't limited to just how to do a physical exam or how to do a certain procedure. The mix of skills learning, comedy, and fun helps dampen the stress associated with the massive amount of studying it takes to become a veterinarian."
Benjamin Galen (M'10)
"Lawrence Memorial Hospital, physical diagnosis class, spring 2008. Lawrence Conway, Associate Professor."
Alejandro Gomez (A'11)
"One hot autumn night, my best buddy Alec Ernest and I donned the fake moustaches we had just purchased at the Garment District and descended upon the social scene. The events that followed were wild and out of the ordinary, a uniqueness whose origin I attribute to our bizarre facial hair. They were great conversation starters, and the photos became their own discussion topics even after the spirit gum rubbed off. "
Elizabeth Herman (A'10)
"[On Election Night, I] spent the early hours watching returns in the campus center, but when the big ones started to come in, headed uphill to 37 Upland to join people who were just as anxious/excited as I was. They had the full set up there - flipping back and forth between the big networks, a monitor set up for the NYT and www.fivethirtyeight.com, and at least three people with their laptops checking returns online. Then, headed over to Trunk rehearsal, where we made it thru GT/BT and half a run of Squirrels before someone whispered, "They called it." Liz and I sprinted (literally!) back to 37 to catch McCain's concession and President-Elect (!) Obama's speech, and then Tim, Jess, and I joined the crowds in front of Bacow's house for a huge celebration rally, replete with a lap around the academic quad. The hoards then marched down to Davis, sung a couple patriotic songs, and headed back towards campus, where I called it a night and crawled into bed, smiling I'm sure."
Elena Jakubiak (PhD, Computer Science)
"This picture is of my friend Eddie Aftandilian, also a Tufts PhD candidate in Computer Science, running the 2009 Boston Marathon. He did great. It was amazing to see my Tufts friends running the marathon."
Hyejo Jun (A'09)
"1. We always have end-of-the-semester ballroom parties, and they remain one of my favorite times of the year!
2. Friends getting together. Our winter holiday party.
3. My year abroad at Tufts-in-Oxford was the best year of my life... our Tufts group picture at matriculation.
Matt Kaufman (A'09)
"This photo was taken on November 4, 2008 -- Election Night -- at the Campus Center. That night, JumboCast produced an Election Night Special, which aired live over the internet. One segment during the broadcast involved President Bacow discussing the importance of the election with the JumboCast anchors, Teddy Minch, Jason Tarricone and Elton Sykes (left to right). This moment embodies Tufts because it highlights student activism (the entire JumboCast production was student run), awareness of current events and the accessibility of President Bacow to all the members of the Tufts community."
Maryanne Kazanis (M'09)
"This picture was taken at the end of first year for the medicine class of 2008. We had an outdoor champagne toast with cake to celebrate the successful completion of our year. It is one of the most special memories I have from medical school, and I think it really embodies the friendly, supportive, and cohesive spirit of the class. In addition, our professors and deans attended the celebration and are in the photograph with us. After working so hard to study for our final exams, it was a lot of fun for everyone to celebrate together before parting for the summer. It's a memory that will forever remind me just what a special place Tufts Medical School is."
Ryan Lee (M'12)
"I think this picture is a great representation of Tufts. This was late night study session in Posner Hall for Histology last semester." (Bottom row from left to right: Kyle Hoesterey, McAllister Windom, Ilana Traynis, Ryan Lee; Lying on bed: Christina Lu, Matthew Savary)
Lauren Levine (A'11)
"This photo to me is quintessential Tufts. It's a nice day, and we're all hanging out the president's lawn, talking and having a good time. It's actually what I think of when I think of great days at Tufts!"
Rachel Lomasky (A'08)
Elena Jakubiak Hutchinson and Rachel Lomasky made candy sushi (Rice Krispie Treat and gummy candy) to be served at Leanne Hirshfield's research talk for her Ph.D. qualifying exams.
Emily Maretsky (A'10)
"This is a photo of all of my fellow F.O.C.U.S. preorientation leaders the morning before our freshman arrived. This moment embodies my 'Tufts experience' as a snapshot of the sheer excitement we felt waiting to welcome our freshman to Tufts and a week of community service in Boston. All of us leaders look forward to F.O.C.U.S. every year and it's a great way for freshman to kick off four years at Tufts!"
Liza McFarland (A'11)
"This is the second year we have celebrated 210's Christmas. Last year we all lived in the Lewis 210's, and now this year all of the boys lived together in the Wren 210's suite. We kept the tradition going this year, and we all did a secret Santa draw. On the Wednesday of reading period, just like the year previous, we all gathered in the common room at 'the crack of dawn,' meaning about 9 in the morning. Sugary food was provided, and we all tore through the presents, guessing who our Santas were. After all of the presents were opened, we all sat around and chatted and ate and laughed, and just enjoyed the togetherness of the holiday season."
Maya Narayanan (M'09)
"Due to Tufts' connection with Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, the four of us (all 4th-year medical students) traveled to India for eight weeks to get hands-on clinical experience, do research and help with setting up a version of TUSK at Christian Medical College. During our time in India, we decided to travel to the northeastern part of the country to go trekking in Singalila National Park. We climbed to a height of 12,000 feet over two days and were mesmerized by views of the world's tallest mountains, the Himalayas. Photo taken in at approximately 10,500 feet in Singalila National Park, which is on the border of India and Nepal. From left to right: Nate Dettori, Michelle Ploutz, John Duell, Maya Narayanan. This picture captures the Tufts spirt of being a culturally diverse institute that promotes exploration and learning beyond the boundaries of Massachusetts."
Samir Patel (D'10)
"This picture is from the 2008 Komen Massachusetts Race for the Cure 5K. I have been the Team Captain of the 'Tufts Dental' Team since 2007. This fall, will be my last year as team captain since I will be graduating in the spring of 2010. This picture embodies my Tufts experience because it was a great way for all of the students, and even some faculty, to get together at the start of the year. We had over 60 runners and walkers participate in last year's race, raising over $3000 for breast cancer research. Tufts Dental has had a team participate in the race every year since at least 2001. In just the past three years, we have raised over $10,000. This race is a big event that all of the Tufts Dental Community looks forward to as a great way to start the year."
Anthony Rios (M'09)
"1. Photos from my recent rotation in the ICU at Carney Hospital. It was a privilege to work with such dedicated and talented individuals.
2. Labor Day Barbecue in 2007.
3. Match Day 2009."
Melissa Romanus (E'10)
"The Tisch Library picture is one that I took of my friends in our sophomore year (before the library roof construction). It is taken facing Boston and everyone is jumping in the air. I think the picture really kind of captures both Tufts and the spirit of the kids here. The library roof is kind of one of those defining things at Tufts, and the views from Boston in the springtime are simply beautiful. It is just a really fun picture--people having a good time, at Tufts, facing Boston."
"The computer science picture was taken during Prof. Ben Hescott's outdoor Data Structures Class. This was one of the most memorable experiences that I've had involving classwork. He dragged the white board outside for us and literally taught computer science by dressing up as a pirate. I like it because it illustrates the fact that professors here are willing to go above and beyond what is required...and that all teaching is not done sitting in a small desk watching Powerpoint presentations. This is one of my favorite things about the university. Not all teachers are outside with pirate hats on, but they're always prepared for lecture and looking for interesting ways to teach us. "
Laura Truhlar (A'09)
"1. When I came to Tufts I met new people from all around the US and other countries. One of my best friends that I met my freshman year was from Malaysia. She taught me many things about her culture, one of them being Holi, which is a celebration of spring. This is a picture taken during Holi in March 2006. Without being at Tufts, I would never have met these amazing people or learned so much about cultures other than my own. Tufts brings people together from around the world to learn from each other and share their experiences which is why this photo embodies the Tufts experience for me. In the photo from left to right: Tina Gulati (Class of 2008), Benjamin Meller (Class of 2009), Anupama Kalaivanan (Class of 2008), Laura Truhlar (Class of 2009), Josh Deull (Class of 2009).
2. This picture was taken in April of 2006 when the weather began to get warm. During this time everyone comes out of the dorms to be outside and play frisbee, catch, or just simply to lay in the sun. It was times like this when all the students mutually enjoy something that Tufts has to offer, such as the gorgeous quads, that the campus felt alive. Being part of something together is what college is about, which is why this photo embodies the Tufts experience for me. In the photo from left to right: Lauren Barozie (Class of 2007), Tina Gulati (Class of 2008), Laura Truhlar (Class of 2009)"

Tufts Urban Skiing
Submitted by Arlin Ladue (A'11)
"I picked to go to a school on a hill in New England for one reason: spontaneous skiing sessions. This video highlights the best skiing on campus of the year following a big dump over President's Weekend. Jumps were constructed, gaps were cleared, and we managed to capture it using both video and pictures."

"This video embodies what Tufts means to me because it is centered on friends. Before coming to Tufts, I could not have expected to become such close friends with the incredibly intelligent, fun-loving, caring people I met my very first day on campus at Wilderness pre-orientation. I have continued to discover even more fascinating people during my first year here, and I am grateful for having met every one of them. One place where I really bonded with people this year was at the Tufts Loj in New Hampshire, where this video takes place."
TAST Nightmarket 2009
Submitted by Samuel Lee (A'09)
"A few weeks ago TAST (Taiwanese Association of Students at Tufts) hosted the annual TAST Nightmarket in Dewick. This was a cultural event showcasing Taiwanese culture and society, featuring numerous authentic Taiwanese foods, fun carnival-like games, live performances, and Taiwanese music. Around 350 people attended, including President Bacow – who kindly helped us film a publicity video for this event – and a representative from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston. However, what made this event, perhaps, one of my favorite and proudest moments these four years at Tufts was the amazing organization, dedication, and energy that all of the e-board members and the volunteers showed. With only an hour to set up Dewick, everyone demonstrated tremendous teamwork while decorating the large space, moving in and placing all of the games, and preparing all of the food. The TAST Nightmarket could not have been so successful without the help of everyone involved. For me, being with the people who have become my closest friends as the event – the culmination of a semester's worth of planning and hard work – unfolded will surely be one of my best Tufts memories."
