Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to set aside a portion of your pay on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible medical, dental, vision, child care and elder care expenses. The money you contribute to these plans reduces your taxable income, thereby reducing your taxes. You may set aside up to:

  • $5,000 per calendar year for health care expenses, and
  • $5,000 per calendar year for dependent care expenses.

Effective January 1, 2012, Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc. has become the University's FSA Administrator.

For 2011 Expenses:?Please continue to submit 2011 calendar year Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account claims directly to WageWorks atwww.wageworks.com.?All submissions for expenses incurred during 2011, must be made no later than April 30, 2012; however, we recommend that you file for reimbursement as soon as possible.?

For 2012 Expenses:?Please submit 2012 Health Care and Dependent Care claims to Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc.? Once enrolled in a Health Care and/or Dependent Care FSA Account for the 2012 plan year, you will be sent a letter from Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc., which will provide information on how to set up an on-line account and use the Health Care Flex Debit Card. Contact information for Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc. is located on the sidebar.

Note:?Employees who are enrolled in a Health Care FSA will need a doctor's prescription to be reimbursed for Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines, such as Claritin, Advil and Robitussin, from their accounts.?A prescription is a written or electronic order for a medicine or drug that meets the legal definition of an Rx in the state where the expense is incurred and is issued by a legally authorized person in that state.
