Academic Year 2008-2009
June 16 Academic year begins for second year MD/MBA students, Class of 2011. Attendance is required.
June 23 Academic year begins for first year MD/MBA students, Class of 2012. Orientation and Registration will be held. Attendance is required.
July 4 Fourth of July observed. Administrative offices closed.
July 7 Start date for fourth year rotations, Class of 2009. Third Year Orientation, Class of 2010.
August 1 Last day for payment of first semester tuition for all students.
August 18 Academic year begins for second year students, Class of 2011, in the MD, MD/MPH, MD/MSE, MD/MA and MD/PhD programs. Orientation and Registration will be held. Attendance is required for students in all degree programs.
August 25 Academic year begins for first year students, Class of 2012, in the MD, MD/MPH, MD/MSE, MD/MA and MD/PhD programs. Orientation and Registration will be held. Attendance is required for all students in all degree programs.
September 1 Labor Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
September 20 White Coat Ceremony, Class of 2012.
October 13 Columbus Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
October 16 Interclerkship Day at Baystate Medical Center for Class of 2010. Attendance is required.
October 22 Interclerkship Day at TUSM for Class of 2010. Attendance is required.
November 11 Veterans' Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
November 27-28 Thanksgiving recess. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
December 20 Vacation begins for all students.
December 24-25 Christmas holiday observed. Administrative offices closed.
January 1 New Year’s holiday observed. Administrative offices closed.
January 5 Rotations resume for third and fourth year students. Classes resume for first and second year students. Last day for payment of second semester tuition for all students.
January 19 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
February 16 Presidents' Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with the hospital services regarding holiday time off.
March 16 Spring Break vacation begins for first and second year students, Classes of 2012 and 2011.
March 19 Residency Matching Program results released at Noon for Class 2009.
March 23 Classes resume for first and second year students, Classes of 2012 and 2011.
April 20 Patriots' Day observed. Administrative offices closed. No classes for first and second year students. Third and fourth year students must check with hospital services.
April 24 Graduation requirements must be completed by fourth year students, Class of 2009.
May 13 Wednesday Last day of the academic year for second year students, Class of 2011.
May 15 Friday Last day of the academic year for first year students, Class of 2012.
May 17 Commencement ceremony, Medford Campus, Class of 2009.
May 25 Memorial Day observed. Administrative offices closed. Third year students must check with the hospital service.
June 19 Academic year ends for third year students, Class of 2010.
Holidays
The administrative offices of Tufts University School of Medicine observe the holidays listed on this calendar, and classes are not held for first and second year students. Observation of all holidays by third and fourth year students is determined by the hospitals and is contingent upon the student's clinical responsibilities. Holidays observed on the TUSM school calendar do not define holidays for third and fourth year students and may be excluded.
