Visiting Student Information
Tufts University School of Medicine welcomes medical students interested in applying to our Visiting Student Program. Applicants must be final year students in good academic standing currently enrolled at a school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Students must be in their final year of medical school and must be fluent in English.
Interested international students should contact our International Office or direct phone inquiries to 617-636-0354. International students should be aware that there are a limited number of clerkships available to them. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to schedule you for a rotation, should you apply.
Electives are four weeks in duration and are available, on a space available basis to eligible visiting students. Variation on the rotation dates is not possible. On occasion, Baystate Medical Center will permit slight variations on dates of electives offered at their site. Baystate Medical Center, located in Springfield Massachusetts (90 miles west of Boston), is the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine.
Visiting students are limited to a maximum of three (3) four week clerkships. Students remain registered at their own schools while participating in visiting electives. They are not officially enrolled as students of Tufts University.
Please note: July 2010 - May 2011 application information and materials will be posted in April 2010. Do not submit an application for 2010 - 2011 using the 2009 - 2010 application form.

Policies and Other Information
Visiting students are subject to the same rules and regulations that apply to Tufts medical students. Violation of any school policy may result in immediate withdrawal from the elective. School policies are outlined in the Tufts University School of Medicine
Student Handbook.
All materials submitted become the property of the TUSM Registrar's Office.
Attendance: Attendance is mandatory on all rotations. Students are allowed two excused absences for illness, taking board exams, etc. Beyond that students must have permission from the course director and make up time missed. If a student is ill, the student must contact the course director to say he/she will not be in that day. If the student cannot get in touch with the service, the student will contact the school and the school will notify the service.
Dropping a clerkship: You may drop a rotation up to one month before the rotation starts. Your request to drop a rotation must be in writing and may be faxed to 617-636-0432 or mailed to the Registrar's Office.
Housing: TUSM does not provide temporary housing for visiting students. It is strongly recommended that you make housing arrangements prior to arriving in the Boston area. Housing can be expensive and difficult to find on a short-term basis in Boston.
Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, MA) has housing available on a first come, first served basis.
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Tufts University School of Medicine Visiting Student Program.
