What does an after-school program that provides academic support and technology, life skills, arts, and sports training have to do with public health? "Everything" says Emmanuel Daphnis, MPH '00, who directs the program for 60 children at the Codman Square Health Center in Boston. "If a kid is well-rounded and given the tools to develop in a postitive way, then he or she can avoid a lot of pitfalls--drugs, alcohol, crime. And if that kid grows up to be a good person, we're a better, healthier society."
