Bangladesh
APUA-Bangladesh
was established in 1985 by a group of doctors, microbiologists,
pharmacologists, and university professors based at the Institute
of Post Graduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR), with representation
from the International Chapter of Diarrheal D and R and the Public
Health Institute.
Chapter objectives:
- Act as a catalyst
for scientific data collection and
technical assistance.
- Engage
in innovative scientific research, conducting
studies and projects of particular relevance to in-country
problems.
- Translate
and disseminate findings to health agencies and
the public.
Chapter activities
have included appearances by chapter
leaders on television and radio, discussing the appropriate use
of antibiotics. APUA has provided technical assistance by
arranging visits from APUA medical consultants and assistance
in
developing a proposal for submission to the Board on Science
and Technology for International Development (BOSTID) at the
National Academy of Sciences. The president of APUA-Bangladesh
established an in-country library using the
newsletter for medical students to teach the prudent use of
antibiotics.
