Bulgaria
The
chapter was founded in 1998 and has been actively working for rational
antibiotic use. Bulgarian chapter members have been instrumental
in influencing policy in Bulgaria by participating in the development
of a National Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance
and Rational Antibiotic Policy. The Expert Committee on Antibiotic
Policy, which consisted of 11 APUA-Bulgaria representatives, developed
a national program which has been approved by the Ministry of Health.
APUA was fortunate to be able to sponsor the chapter coordinator
to attend the 10th Annual ICID Meeting and APUA Symposium "Towards
Controlling Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Low-Income Countries"
in Singapore in March of 2002 through the generosity of a grant
from The Wellcome Trust.
Current issues: ESBL
is an emerging problem in Bulgaria. Antibiotic availability in
hospital pharmacies is limited. Upcoming International Chapter Events
