Colombia
APUA-Colombia
was established in 2001 and has already begun implementing a national
project to involve 17 hospital laboratories in consolidating data
for a surveillance network for antibiotic resistance and simultaneously
guarantee the quality of the data provided through an external quality
control program (the WHO-EQAS program). Funded through an APUA Small
Grant, APUA-Colombia is currently conducting a "National survey
on approach to the level of empirical use of antimicrobial agents
and diffusion of basic rules for prudent use."
Current issues: There
are no laws that regulate the sale and dispensing of antibiotics.
Particular regulations exist for physico-active drugs or medications
that may cause dependency. Upcoming International Chapter Events
