APUA-Sweden
was established in May 1999, under the leadership of the Swedish
network STRAMA, Swedish Strategic
Programme for the Rational Use of Antimicrobial Agents and Surveillance
of Resistance. STRAMA is a diverse group consisting of one national
and more than 30 regional groups. The national group was formed by the Swedish
Institute for Reference Group for antibiotics and contains members
from the Swedish Products Agency, National Board on Health and Welfare,
National Corporation of Swedish Pharmacies, Swedish Network for
Pharmacoepidemiology, Swedish Veterinary Agency and Society of County
Medical Officers for Communicable Disease Control. APUA-Sweden is
active in collecting antibiotic use and resistance pattern data
for a European surveillance network as well as a for a national
surveillance program.
