The impact
of these activities is reflected by a paper published in JAMA
in June 2002. During the late 1990's, antibiotic prescriptions
to children in doctors' offices declined by more than 40%. Some
of this reduction may be due to CDC activities promoting appropriate
antibiotic use.
Please
see http://www.cdc.gov/drugresistance/community/
for more information on the CDC's Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics
Work campaign.
Dr. Anne
Bolmström, of AB BIODISK, was also recognized for her instrumental
role in advancing the use of antimicrobial resistance testing
by APUA Chapters in developing countries.
Dr.
Bolmström has, on more than one occasion, demonstrated her company's
social responsibility and dedication to preserving the power
of antibiotics, by providing free E-Test strips to researchers
in Guatemala and Nigeria. She has always been there to help
our International Chapters, demonstrating her willingness and
readiness to help others in need. Please see http://www.abbiodisk.com/
